In Brazil, they have the Caipirinha–their national cocktail made with Cachaca, a rum-like liquor derived from raw sugar cane. It has a fresh green taste, elevated with sugar and fresh lime. The presence of this drink on any table constitutes a party anytime of the year–not just during carnival!
This year, in honor of Father”s Day and the Mattituck Strawberry Festival, (our North Fork carnival), we at The Greenporter Hotel are making a Caipirinha with strawberries, which we have aptly titled the “Strawberry Samba”. So, let the party begin!
Strawberry Samba
Serves 2
3 large strawberries hulled and sliced
2 oz of simple syrup or agave syrup
2 oz of Leblon premium Cachaca
half a lime, quartered
ice and club soda
In a cocktail shaker muddle the strawberries and the quartered limes, add the Cachaca, simple syrup, and the ice and shake. Pour into tall cocktail glasses and finish with a splash of club soda. Place a strawberry on the rim as a garnish.
