You don’t have to produce the entire St. Patrick’s day dinner with the corned beef and cabbage to celebrate with friends and family. Keep it simple. Invite people for dessert and coffee and serve up some Irish coffees to compliment your dessert table. Have everyone bring a different dessert or baked good and serve it all up with this classic Irish Coffee and we serve it at Cuvee Bistro any night you want to celebrate the luck of the Irish.
Irish Coffee
glass
A stirrer
A warm spoon
some hot water
4 ounces of freshly brewed coffee
2 cocktail sugar cubes
¾ ounce of Irish Whiskey
Sugar (optional)
Homemade Whipped Cream
With a few simple steps, you’ll have a delicious warming cocktail topped with homemade whipped cream.
Brew your favorite coffee. Choose something full-flavored like dark roasted French. Store in a thermos, since coffee becomes bitter if left on the burner for any length of time. Then whip your cream. Check out: How to whip cream.
Select your favorite Irish Whiskey like Jamesons or Bushmill. Since it’s going into hot coffee with whipped cream, I find it best to stick with a mid-priced whiskey unless you also plan to drink it straight and want to spend the money for a premium whiskey from a boutique producer. You will want to pre-heat the glass. The most efficient and easiest way to do this is to pour hot water directly into the glass. Once the glass has been pre-heated, you can dump the water out and continue.
When it’s time to serve, fill clear mugs or sturdy glasses halfway adding a shot of whiskey to each. At this time, you can also add the sugar if you want your coffee sweetened. If you prefer, you can also choose to sweeten the coffee prior to adding it into the mixture. Top with your freshly whipped cream and be sure to not stir it. You can top it with a little cocao powder or chocolate shavings for garnish.
This coffee served with an assortment of scones, Irish soda bread, Irish Cheddar…. Will make a memorable St. Patrick’s Day.
